Data Exchange

Your class lists, shared with the other systems your school uses

Data Exchange lets your school’s other systems read its class lists, each through a connection of its own that sees only the school years and the details about a person you choose. Every connection shows when it was last used, and you can stop any of them at any time.

What it does

A connection for each system

Give a library system, learning platform or transport provider its own connection id and secret, rather than a staff login. The secret is shown once, and a new one can be issued at any time.

You choose what each one reads

Pick the school years each connection reads, and whether it is sent names, email addresses and student numbers. Before you save, see how many students, staff and classes it will share.

Every change on record

Each connection keeps a history of who created, changed, re-issued or revoked it, beside when it was last used. Revoke one, or stop them all at once and start them again exactly as they were.

How it works

  1. Set up your school

Sign up, then add the colleagues who look after your school’s systems on the People page, or send them a join link.

  2. Bring in your classes

Connect roster sync to the system your classes live in, or upload a roster file, so your school years, classes and people are in place.

  3. Make a connection

Create a connection for each system, choose what it may read, and copy its id and secret into the other system.

What it costs

Data Exchange is free on its own, with no card, for up to 30 people. Each app you add after it is $25 (NZD) a month, and each person beyond those 30 people is $2 (NZD) a month.

Questions people ask

Who can set up a connection?

Only your school’s administrators: teachers, students and families never see this page. A connected system reads only the classes in the school years you chose and the people in them, never anyone who has left the school or whose records you have restricted.

Do we need our timetable or our classes?

Your classes, but not your timetable. This app brings your classes in through roster sync, from PowerSchool, Clever, Wonde or a OneRoster connection or file. Making classes by hand comes with the whole of MyTime.

Which systems can read from it?

Any system that reads OneRoster, version 1.2 or the earlier 1.1, using its connection id and secret. For a system that takes a file instead, download a roster file in either format and upload it there.

Can we add more later?

Yes. Add another app, such as charts of the data files your school already keeps, or the whole of MyTime, and keep everything you already have.
